GulfMAR 2013 CFP extended: Abstracts requested by September 2

The Gulf Medieval and Renaissance (GulfMAR) Conference, formerly the Louisiana Consortium of Medieval and Renaissance Scholars, will hold its annual meeting this fall at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge on September 27-28, 2013. The Consortium welcomes scholars from across the gulf coast region, in addition to the initial core group from Louisiana universities and colleges.

GulfMAR, which began in September 2003 at LSU, is a multi-disciplinary annual meeting of scholars in the Medieval and Renaissance fields of study.  We invite 15-20-minute papers on any topic in Medieval and/or Renaissance studies: we are hoping for a wide range of submissions from across fields of history, literature, art history, history of science, law, and more.  In addition, we are looking to organize sessions around some of the following:

Chaucer, Spenser, Shakespeare, Milton
New theoretical or methodological approaches to early literature
Convergences and Divergences of Philosophy, Science, and Religion in the M.A. and Ren.
Intellectual Cross-Pollination Across Cultures
Ecocriticism and Early Literature
Gender & Sexuality Studies and Early Literature
Material Evidence and the Past
Film and Early Literature
Law and Early Literature
Materiality, Metaphor, and Literature

Please send abstracts of 250-300 words to cbarrett@lsu.edu by September 2, 2013.  Audio-visual needs can be accommodated and should be noted on submitted abstracts.

We welcome faculty and advanced grad students from across the region.  We have also reserved up to two presentation slots for undergraduates engaged in high-level research; undergraduates who wish to apply for these slots should submit an abstract, c.v., and brief note of endorsement from their faculty adviser.

The conference will supply light refreshments, a boxed lunch and evening reception on Saturday, a wine reception, and a special performance event.

Participants in the GulfMAR 2013 conference will need to arrange their own hotel accommodations.  Logistical information and accommodations suggestions can be found on the conference website: GulfMAR.blogspot.com.

Please share this news with your colleagues, and we hope to see you in September!
